Businesses probably looked at degrees as a way to hire qualified applicants. If I wanted to hire someone to make Pinterest pins for me, I'd need some proof they can actually do it. I can't TEACH them if that's what I'm hiring them to do.

The problem is that people don't create portfolios and build proof of their skills. This even happens with college graduates who just assume some random degree is a ticket to any job... even if they didn't learn the skills to do the job during their classes!
